5/24/2023 0 Comments Metamorphosis book by franz kafka![]() The story begins with Gregor waking up late for work and noticed that he has transformed into a “monstrous verminous bug” (Kafka 29), not thinking that transforming into a bug is possible, he suggested to sleep a little longer and “forget all this idiocies” (Kafka 29). Kafka has not written why and how Gregor Samsa’s transformation happened, it was probably because he doesn’t want readers to concentrating on how Gregor Samsa had transformed, instead he wanted his readers to know how Gregor Samsa felt after transforming and what he has experience after transformation.Ĭritical analysis of The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka ![]() Julian Preece has written that The Metamorphosis may be linked to Marx works, and she quoted from Walter Stokel that: “Gregor’s profound self alienation corresponds, with uncanny precision, to Marx’s definition of the ‘externalization’ of works under capitalism” (Preece 135). There was no back story provided for the readers before transformation and what has caused the transformation to happen, Kafka started his story with a guy who woke up realizing he turned into a bug, readers and fans of Kafka has given out their own interpretation of the story and the interpretations never seems to end. ![]() ![]() ![]() Maybe I’ve watched too many shows on Lifetime, but to me both Pammie and Adam scream “murderous psychopath.” Yes, Emily’s situation is complicated by marriage and a baby, but I can’t figure out why she doesn’t just get the hell away from them both, especially when Adam begins to behave badly (having an affair, staying out until the wee hours drinking, that kind of thing) and his mother out-and-out kidnaps their child. “Sometimes I think it’s just silly pettiness,” Emily tells her roommate, Pippa, “but then something gnaws away at me, chipping and chipping until I’m convinced she’s a bitter, jealous psychopath.” Adam is uncharacteristically snippy with her when it comes to his mother: “You’re bigger than this, surely? … Even if Mum has her little foibles … are you not better to rise above it?” ![]() Other than the fact that his first wife died under mysterious circumstances, Adam seems to be the perfect partner - but his mother, Pammie, is a bullying nightmare, criticizing Emily’s weight, sabotaging her friendships, even causing a huge commotion at the party where they become engaged. ![]() I hadn’t even known I’d wanted one until Adam showed up,” Emily says. ![]() ![]() ![]() This book is suitable as a read aloud book for preschooler at bedtime or as a self-read children's book for older children. Because he spent a lifetime as an artist-from his early years as a political cartoonist, to his celebrated children’s books, to his secret nighttime painting practice-it’s only fitting that this story is an art history lesson for young readers. It’s likely that this is the last book from the mind of Ted Geisel. It arrives 9 months after Audrey passed away at age 97. Collectively, though, they would become titans, defining a vigorous and distinctly American form of art, Abstract Expressionism, which burst upon the art world in the late 1950s in the landmark exhibition entitled “The New American Painting.” It was the art market’s version of the classic rags-to-riches tale. They were bohemians and misfits they drank and caroused and argued endlessly about the past and the future of art. This little universe of men and women, living and working in squalor up and down Tenth Street in Greenwich Village in unheated tenements and dimly-lighted lofts, was largely ignored by the art establishment. Some of these artists would rise to prominence and fame yet nearly all of them would labor, often for many years, in despair and grinding career uncertainty. This lyrical if dreary tableau from the 1950s captures a moment in time of what would become known as the New York School of painters. Patricia Albers, Joan Mitchell: Lady Painter ![]() “Nowhere on earth was painting lived as intensely as below Fourteenth Street, where, after every night of beery camaraderie, painters still had to face the decrepit walk-ups and the scramble to make rent.” ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Every Man a Tiger by Tom Clancy![]() ![]() The main text demonstrates Horner's success in implementing his concepts over Iraq. What mattered was the appropriate situational use of air power in an integrated war plan. A firm believer in central control of air assets, Horner also regarded traditional distinctions between ""strategic"" and ""tactical"" air as no longer relevant. Horner was part of a new Air Force generation that rejected the Strategic Air Command model of ""predictability, order and control"" in favor of a holistic approach to air power and air command. This book is less about the Gulf War than about the making of a modern fighter general and the remaking of a modern air force. ![]() armed forces (after Into the Storm, written with Army general Fred Franks) focuses on Air Force general Chuck Horner, the fighter pilot who was overall air commander for Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
